Summary

Description

This R-1820 is from a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress, serial No 44-6504 and c/n 22726(-DL). It was operated by the 360th Bomb Squadron, part of the 303rd Bomb Group and was based at RAF Molesworth. It crashed on 16th December 1944, at Brayton Crag in the Cheviot Hills. The crew consisted of:- Pilot:- 2nd Lt George Anderson Kyle Co-Pilot:- F/O James H. Hardy Engineer:- Sgt Ernest G. Schieferstein Radio:- Sgt Joel A. Berly Navigator:- F/O Fred Holcombe Togglier:- Sgt Frank R. Turner Gunner:- Sgt William R. Kaufmann Ball Gunner:- Sgt George P. Smith Tail Gunner:- Sgt Howard F. Delaney

This engine, with a fuel tank and other parts, is on display in the Bamburgh Castle Aviation Artefacts Museum, Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland, UK.
