English: Thorpe Abbotts Airfield - Control Tower Museum. This 0.5" calibre Browning machine gun forms part of the defensive armament of a Boeing B17 Flying Fortress. These aircraft formed the four squadrons of the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Force who were based at Thorpe Abbotts airfield from April 1943 to December 1945 in World War II. There are many fascinating exhibits including uniforms, flying equipment, completed log books, medical assessments of personnel, instruction manuals on how to proceed if captured by enemy forces and more mundane items like tooth brushes, watches, after shave containers, soft drink cola bottles, etc. For more information see http://www.100bgmus.org.uk/html/intro.html
