Description
English: Brett McNish, Smithsonian Gardens supervisory horticulturist, gives Marines with Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., a short history brief about the significance of the poppy plant as it relates to the military and World War I in front of the National Museum of American History in Washington, Nov. 12. After the lesson, the Marines participated in the Flanders Field Project, where they spread seeds over the front lawn of the museum to recreate the poppy fields that blossomed on the war-stricken land of Europe in the aftermath of WWI.
