Summary
DescriptionLocomotive "Alan George" on the Teifi Valley Narrow Gauge Railway - July 2002.jpg
English: Alan George was built by the Hunslet Engine Company, Leeds, in 1894. Delivered new to Penrhyn Quarry in May of that year, the locomotive cost £500 and assigned maker's number. She was subjected to a hard working life; constantly relied on with minimal maintenance and running over poor quality quarry track. By 1953 Alan George had been laid up until eventually being privately sold upon closure of the quarry in 1965.
She saw restoration and light running in the 1970s, before changing hands again and arriving at the Teifi Valley Railway in 1983. Alan George has then seen active service, hauling passenger services and becoming an icon for the railway as it grew.
The railway held large-scale events in 1994 and 2004 to mark the locomotive's centenary and 110th birthday respectively, celebrating this remarkable locomotive.
