English: Lochmaben Castle The scant remains of the castle now stand on a peninsula at the south end of Lochmaben Loch. Originally this was an island but the level of the loch was lowered and now it is protected by a moat. An earlier castle here was owned by the Bruce family and it is suggested that King Robert may have been born here.(Carrick another contender).
This castle was built by the English and dates from the 14th century. It was rebuilt by King James IV but later largely dismantled by James VI in 1588.
