English: Kildrummy Castle These ruins are all that remains of this once important 13th century castle. A stronghold of the Earls of Mar. In 1306, during the wars of independence, King Robert the Bruce sent the Queen and his sisters here for safekeeping under the care of his brother Nigel. Besieged by Prince Edward, later Edward II, it held out until betrayed by Osborne the blacksmith who was promised all the gold he could carry for his treachery. Edward kept his promise, he poured molten gold down his throat. The fate of the prisoners may be imagined!
