English: Hadleigh Castle (5) This castle dates from 1230 and was originally built for King John. It is in a state of ruins because Edward VI sold off the stone so it could be used elsewhere. English Heritage now own the site. Extensive work has taken place on the castle over the last two years to stop it crumbling away. This is the first visit I have made where the scaffolding has been removed. Please see my other photos of the castle.
