English: Entrance to McIlroy Park One of the green areas in West Reading. Locals take a pride in their park and have formed a "friends of" group to keep it tidy and help maintain it. Every March a spring clean takes place in the parks and rivers called RESCUE (Rivers and Environmental Spaces Clean Up Event).
William McIlroy, who ran a family department store in Reading, donated the land for the park to Reading. He had bought the land to ensure the view from his property would not be spoiled. (Source Reading Borough Council website.) |
