Summary

Description
English: Dorney Court, Dorney, Windsor. Originating around 1500, Dorney Court is grade one listed and contains panelling from Faversham Abbey in Kent. As Dorney village manor house it has passed through 13 generations of the Palmer family stretching back about 400 years. It opened to the public in 1981. Mentioned in the Domesday Book the manor was held by Miles Crispin and his tenant Ralf in 1086. Sir William Garrard served as Lord Mayor of London in 1555 and bought the manor of Dorney from a James Hill in 1542, his daughter Martha married Sir James Palmer who acquired the Court in 1624. Remodelling of the house was undertaken at the end of the nineteenth century and the original bricks were restored to the front façade of the house. The house has been used as a location in numerous TV and Film shoots including Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Poirot and many others. In the background is the Grade I Listed Church of St. James. A 12th century Parish Church with 16th century tower.
